Letterland is a unique, phonics-based approach to teaching reading, writing and spelling to 3-8 year olds. Each week the students embark on a new adventure with a letterland friend. Their asked daily "why do we need letters" and answer "to read". We put reading in practice through daily book walks where we review the parts of book and literacy concepts. We also take sentence walks as we break apart the sentence and its meaning word by word. |

Science-Use one or more of the senses to make observations about the environment.
This quarter we spent a lot of time talking about the person as a whole and we access the world. We collaborated our 5 senses into each subject, by asking open ended questions encouraging the students to think. As the children mature they will become more and more curious about their surroundings, so it is important to develop the tools they will use to access their forever changing world. Using the 5 sensing in reading helps them to understand descriptive words as they become little authors themselves.
